The Eye

The eye the eye ever watching
open gate to the soul
admitting what has been perceived
these gates must be controlled
____
for temptation lurks all about
as evil finds its way
appearing in the natural
to trap its innocent prey
____
by posing as a great desire
lust is able to burn
as long as the eye shall tarry
and the head refuses to turn
____
then sin is born from out of lust
the eye has let it in
now Satan has what he desires
a stronghold for a sin
____
and slow death from this corruption
separates God from man
once again the devil succeeds
turning one from God’s plan
____
but Christ has made atonement grace
available through prayer
confessing sin under the blood
forgiveness enters there
____
when a heart turns toward the Lord
strongholds give way to love
and the eye becomes clean once more
to serve its God above
